For those unfamiliar with Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, the asymmetrical multiplayer title casts four players as the titular ghostbusters, who have to work together to capture dangerous spirits plaguing the various maps in the game. A fifth player can join in on the action as well, taking control of the ghost. Like its other games, IllFonic is looking to support Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed for the long term with regular updates and DLC, the first of which is available to download today.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed’s new DLC is available to download right now, free for anyone that owns the base game. The headlining addition is Muncher, a blue ghost that first appeared in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the latest film in the franchise. Muncher causes havoc early in the Ghostbusters: Afterlife film, living up to his namesake by eating everything in sight. He’s coming to Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed as part of Glutton class, which will include two other ghosts as well.

Muncher isn’t the only new addition to Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. Players also have a new map to check out called Facility, along with a variety of new customization options and quality-of-life improvements. This free DLC for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed should be just the beginning of the game’s post-launch support, so Ghostbusters fans can expect more big updates for the game in the months ahead.

While Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed reviews were somewhat mixed, the game does seem to have struck a chord with fans of the franchise, so it’s great to see that it’s getting post-launch support like this. The first DLC for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is setting the bar high with the addition of Muncher and the new Facility map, but it will definitely be interesting to see what future DLC packs and updates have in store for Ghostbusters enthusiasts.

It’s an exciting time to be a Ghostbusters fan. Not only is the franchise well-represented in the video game space thanks to Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, but it’s also making a comeback in theaters. Ghostbusters: Afterlife was successful enough for the filmmakers to move forward with a sequel, which is currently scheduled to premiere in theaters on December 20 of this year.
