The new Ghost of Tsushima release date is July 17, whereas The Last of Us 2 is coming out on June 19. It seems that the Ghost of Tsushima delay is likely not due to the development team needing more time to work on the game. While this wasn’t specified by Sony, the more likely scenario is that Ghost of Tsushima’s delay is simply to give The Last of Us 2 more room in June and so that the two games aren’t competing with each other.

What isn’t clear is how much the big Last of Us 2 leak has played into this announcement. For the uninitiated, massive Last of Us 2 spoilers have leaked online, prompting fans to practically beg Naughty Dog for an early digital release so that they can avoid having the experience ruined for them. It’s possible that Sony announced this new Last of Us 2 release date to distract from the spoilers and mitigate the damage done, but that’s just speculation at this time.
Regardless, it seems PlayStation fans have two huge games to look forward to this summer. While The Last of Us 2 may be a bit more higher profile, Ghost of Tsushima is also bringing a lot to the table. Sucker Punch has produced some classic PlayStation games in the past, and Ghost of Tsushima looks to be no different, with especially-impressive visuals and brutal combat. Ghost of Tsushima’s open world is also going in some bold new directions, and it will be interesting to see how it all comes together in July.
Some fans who are looking forward to Ghost of Tsushima may be disappointed that the game is now coming out in July instead of June, but it’s much better than the Ghost of Tsushima indefinite delay that some were fearing after The Last of Us 2 was pushed back. Here’s hoping there are no more release date changes and Ghost of Tsushima fans can safely circle July 17 on their calendars.
Ghost of Tsushima launches on July 17, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
