The latest fan-favorite to be placed in a non-playable role for the new Super Smash Bros. games is Ghirahim from The Legend of Zelda series.

The creator of Super Smash Bros., Masahiro Sakurai, graced fans with yet another one of his daily updates on MiiVerse to reveal the fate of Ghirahim. While it may not be the ideal role that many pegged him for, he does join the likes of Skull Kid from Majora’s Mask who has also been given a role of an Assist Trophy in the new titles.

Originally debuting in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on the Wii, Ghirahim instantly stood out to gamers as a memorable villain for his creepy and flamboyant mannerisms — more often than not involving his grotesquely long tongue.

The character quickly gained a level of popularity that would have made him a prime candidate for inclusion as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros., but apparently it just wasn’t enough to make the cut this time around.

Even more characters are likely to be disconfirmed/confirmed in the coming weeks, so stay tuned to Game Rant for more updates on Super Smash Bros..

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS will be arriving on October 3, 2014, while the Wii U version will hit during Holiday 2014.
